For a decade, Kanawha County Public Library has partnered with Charleston Newspapers and the West Virginia Humanities Council to bring books and people together through the annual West Virginia Book Festival. Each October, thousands of book lovers visit the Charleston Civic Center for a weekend of reading, writing and learning.
In honor of the event’s 10th anniversary, the charter presenters are offering a star-studded lineup that includes New York Times best-selling authors Nicholas Sparks and Diana Gabaldon; Civil War historian and Virginia Tech professor Dr. James Robertson; children’s author Carmen Deedy; and West Virginia native Jayne Anne Phillips. This year a total of 17 authors will present readings and workshops and autograph books throughout the weekend of October 16 and 17.
The festival also offers a large marketplace where visitors may shop for books and similar items, a children’s area with hands-on activities, and a large, two-day used book sale. Festival hours are Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. The used book sale will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition to the loyal support of the charter presenters, we thank the businesses and individuals who have financially supported the 10th annual West Virginia Book Festival.
